"During my childhood in Portugal, all we played was futsal. The small playing area helped me improve my close control, and whenever I played futsal I felt free. If it wasn't for futsal, I wouldn't be the player I am today"
Cristiano Ronaldo

GLAN LLYN FUTSAL CLUB

Futsal was created in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930 by Juan Carlos Ceriani to provide an indoor, year-round version of football.

Why we play Futsal at GLFC?

Futsal is important because it significantly improves players' technical skills, decision-making, and fitness in a fast-paced, smaller-scale environment. Its constraints promote better ball control, agility, and passing, while also fostering creativity and confidence. It is especially valuable for developing young footballers, as it accelerates technical and cognitive growth in ways that can be transferred to outdoor soccer.

Technical Development
Constant ball control: The smaller, heavier ball has a reduced bounce, forcing players to use the sole of their foot more to maintain extremely tight ball control. Rapid touches: Players have less time and space, so they must master quick, precise first touches, dribbling, and passes. Execution under pressure: With defenders in close proximity, every action—from passing to shooting—must be executed quickly and accurately to avoid losing possession.

Tactical Demands
Immediate decision-making: The fast pace and limited space require players to make split-second decisions and constantly react to changes in possession. Creative problem-solving: Players must seek creative solutions to overcome constant pressure and tight defensive marking. Player rotations: Teams use rotational movements and set plays to create space and confuse opponents, demanding high levels of communication and understanding.
Quick transitions: With no offside rule and constant turnovers, players must be ready to transition from offense to defense, and vice-versa, in an instant.

Physical requirements
High intensity: The gameplay consists of repeated high-intensity bursts of running, quick changes of direction, and tackles, with only brief periods of rest. Anaerobic endurance: Futsal requires both aerobic and anaerobic energy, as players must maintain a high work rate for the duration of the match.Agility and power: Exceptional agility and leg power are needed for explosive movements, such as accelerating, decelerating, dodging, and jumping.
